LGBTQ+ Inclusion at Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy
At Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy, we are proud to foster an inclusive, supportive, and safe environment for all students, including those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Our commitment to equality and respect is embedded throughout our school culture and reflected in our Personal Development curriculum, where students explore LGBTQ+ history, rights, and the importance of celebrating individuality.
We offer a biweekly Pride Group, providing a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students and allies to connect, share experiences, and plan inclusive events. A highlight of our calendar is Pride Week in June, featuring assemblies, tutor-time activities, and student-led initiatives that raise awareness and celebrate diversity across our school community.
Our dedication to inclusivity is visible every day — we proudly fly the Pride flag year-round as a symbol of solidarity and our belief that every student deserves to feel recognised, respected, and celebrated, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
We are honoured to have received the Rainbow Flag Award, a nationally recognised accreditation that celebrates our efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students.
At Lord Lawson, we encourage all students to express themselves confidently and know that their voices will be heard in a safe and respectful setting. Any student seeking advice or support is encouraged to speak with a trusted member of staff in their year base. Additional guidance and resources can also be found via the LGBTQ+ support websites listed below.
