Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness
As we approach the lighter spring nights when young people stay out longer with their friends it’s important for parents and guardians to be aware that the Fire Service experiences an increase of incidents associated with anti-social behaviour.
Please consider the following points:
- Know where your child/children are playing in the local community.
- Advise that your child is home for a pre-arranged time.
- Try to sign up your child for organised groups or clubs delivered in a control environment.
- Fire setting is not only a danger to people in the surrounding vicinity, including the fire-setter themselves, but materials such as plastics can emit harmful toxic gases once alight which can prove deadly.
- Deliberate fires can prove fatal for everyone involved as our firefighters can’t be in two places at once, which means that potentially resident’s lives could be put at risk through repeated thoughtless fire-setting.
- Inform your child about the importance of water safety and not to play or swim near to ponds, lakes, rivers or even abandoned quarries.
If anyone wishes to report incidents of anti-social behaviour relating to deliberate fire-setting in their local community then people can call Firestoppers anonymously by ringing 0800 169 5558 or by completing an online form www.firestoppersreport.co.uk
